The last project last year that gd-Team supported was the project of our colleague Nikola, Mail to Seniors. It was in this project that we reminded ourselves that we should not overlook the elderly and it is nice to have the opportunity to put a smile on their face. Nikola has been coordinating and managing the project in her free time for several years. From the original plan to improve the quality of life for seniors in social services centres and retirement homes, the project has expanded to hundreds of involved participants. The project connects volunteers with seniors who no longer have family and friends to communicate with. Volunteers write letters, send postcards from trips, and seniors make greetings, draw pictures and create their own works, which they send to the volunteers along with the letters. Last year, we managed to launch a Christmas Mail sub-project as part of the Mail for Seniors, where elementary and secondary school students wrote Christmas greetings to seniors throughout the region. Also, within the project they organize material donations in case of urgent need by social services centres and retirement homes, where mostly blankets, pillows, etc. are collected. The project is actively growing and meeting its objectives of making life more beautiful for everyone. This year, they managed to send almost 400 letters written by students, teachers and parents from the Limbová Elementary School in Žilina. If anyone is interested in corresponding with seniors during the year, do not hesitate to contact the Youth Section. A volunteer will assign you an elderly woman or man with whom you can correspond during the year.
