Blind para-swimmer Tatiana Blattnerová has the nickname “shark” in the swimming community.
Tatiana’s story: I was born on 16 March 2002 in Bratislava. I have a handicap from birth. I cannot see at all. But still, I try to achieve the best possible results in para-swimming. In September 2019, I will start the second year at a Business Academy in Bratislava. I have two-phase training, in the morning before lessons and in the evening. In addition, I have dry training to improve my condition. My favourite swimming style is the crawl. Since I am completely blind, it takes me longer to learn, for example, a good start. It is also more difficult for me to swim in the middle of the track. The highest goal for me is to participate in the Paralympic Games and win a medal. For Slovak para-swimming, I am currently the only one to meet the A limit for participation in next year’s Paralympic Games, which will take place in Tokyo, Japan.
Sporting achievements: Meeting the limits and participation in the Eindhoven 2014 IPC Swimming European Championships: 9th place (100m freestyle), 10th place (50m freestyle)
- Meeting the limits and participation in the Glasgow 2015 IPC World Championships: 10th place (100m breaststroke), 11th place (100m backstroke), 14th place (100m freestyle),
- Meeting five B limits of participation in the XV Paralympic Games, Rio 2016,
- Meeting five A limits of participation in the Mexico City 2017 IPC World Para Swimming Championships.
In Mexico, I managed to get the second place in the 50m freestyle, the third place in the 400m freestyle and also the third place in the 100m freestyle performance. In 2018, I met 5 limits for the IPC European Championships, which took place in Dublin, Ireland. The most valuable achievement for me is the 5th place in the 100m freestyle performance. “Currently, Tanya as our only representative appeared in the 100m breaststroke finals at the London 2019 World Para Swimming Championships and got an excellent seventh place, congratulations!
